Dear Students and Families:

The Silent Mind is very pleased to announce we’re re-opening for in-studio classes starting Saturday May 16, 2020.  We will conduct limited in-studio classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

I’ve thought a lot about re-opening and have relied on these reported statistics (as of 4/27/20) in my decision, and believe we can safely re-open the school:

Ohio reported COVID-19 cases:                        15,587   (0.134%)    Deaths:   711 (0.006%)

Cuyahoga, Summit, Portage COVID-19 cases:   2607   (0.135%)    Deaths:   160 (0.008%)

Summit County COVID-19 cases:                           485   (0.089%)    Deaths:     38 (0.007%)

Twinsburg COVID-19 cases:                                      14   (0.073%)    Deaths:       0 (0.000%)

COVID-19 Mortality Rate by Age

      Age:                  0-9     10-19    20-29    30-39    40-49    50-59    60-69    70-79      80+

      Mortality:         0.0%    0.2%     0.2%     0.2%      0.4%    1.3%     3.6%      8.0%    14.8%

We are re-opening in phases.  At first, we’ll maintain the limited class schedule we have been using for our on-line classes.  As time progresses, we’ll re-introduce more classes until we’re back to our full class schedule.  At this moment, we really don’t know how long it will be until we’re back to our full class schedule.

We understand that some of you may still not want to risk in-studio classes.  We are gladly maintaining our on-line classes for you and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

For those considering returning to the dojo for class, all I can say is we are doing everything in our power to insure the dojo is super clean and sanitized for your health and safety.  But, having said that please read the disclaimer at the end of this document.

If you plan to return to in-studio classes it’s important that we know your schedule.  We can only accept 10 people at a time in class right now.  Please email us (info@TheSilentMind.com) the days / times you plan to be in class weekly.  We will confirm your day / time with you to insure we don’t have too many students in the studio at once.  Also, please let us know if you can’t make your scheduled class or need to change your day or time.

Prior to our re-opening, every student is receiving the 3 documents enclosed outlining the safety precautions and guidelines we all will follow while in the dojo attending classes.  These guidelines will also be clearly posted in the studio, and must be strictly adhered to or you will be asked to leave the dojo immediately.  The guidelines are in-place for your health and safety.  As time passes and the risk of the COVID-19 virus diminishes these guidelines will ease until we’re back to our full class schedule as usual.

I and Sensei Joe are very excited to see you once again face-to-face.  While our in-studio classes will remain NO CONTACT for now, we are prepared to make you sweat as we present our T’ai Chi and self-defense martial art curriculum.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes are not in-session yet, but will follow on as soon as it’s deemed safe to return.  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu students are invited and encouraged to join the Goshin Jujutsu classes in the meantime.

Yours Truly,

Sensei Tim
